Did You Know?

"A new study from...suggests that having a dog in the home may worsen the response to air pollution of a child with asthma." - Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC)

The scientists conducted a research on 500 children with asthma, to study the relationship between chronic cough, phlegm production or bronchitis and dog/cat ownership. Children who lived with dogs showed significant increase in coughs and phlegm production than those who lived without pets or live with cats.

Cats are highly allergenic, which means, children with asthma are often allergic to cats. However, dogs in this case have proven otherwise!! Dogs, are definitely not allergenic! A likely explanation for is an increase in level of endotoxin in homes with dogs.

Endotoxin is part of the cell wall of a common bacteria found everywhere in the environment. Having a dog at home increases the level of endotoxin and studies have found that inhaled endotoxin causes the lungs to produce an inflammatory response, which may cause the airway of people with asthma to constrict - resulting in breathing difficulties.

Studies found that allergens and endotoxins mix with air pollutants in homes and therefore increases the effect of each other.

However, it might not be really relevant that children with asthma living with dogs will be much worse off than those without pets or lived with cats. The sample size is still relatively small - 500, compared to the general population in the world!

On the other hand, it is true that having a dog (or pets) at home enhances one's life pretty much. Interaction with pets often results in the relieve of anxiety, and to top it off, I'm sure that having a dog at home livens up the mood greatly.! Dogs, I'd say, are very sensible mammals on earth and they are certainly very loyal. These undeniable facts have greatly brought the statistics of the ownership of dogs around the world up. They are great companions! =)

"Man's best friend is the dog." I would agree. But living along side with dogs on earth are many beautiful mammals, creatures. Every living creature is sacred, precious and lovely. I always believe every single mammal have the ability to comprehend the thoughts of human beings, and feel for us. Likewise, we do feel for them too.

Monday, 4 September 2006, Australia's greatest wildlife icon Steve Irwin was killed in the process of filming a documentary "Ocean's Deadliest". Reports suggests that he was filming one of the stingrays when he got too close to it. He was swimming above it when the barb of the toxin-loaded tail pierced through his heart. Australia's marine neuroscientist Shaun Collin said that it's extremely unlucky to be killed by a stingray as the chances are very low. Most people get stung by stingrays when they step on their tails and it would only cause an intense pain at the wound site. Moreover, it is not easy to get stung by one, so the chances of getting killed by one?

I wouldn't deny the probability of getting killed by one, but well, extremely rare. Sources reported that the sting pierced under his rib cage and through his heart, which greatly reduces his survival chances. Rescue helicopter arrived and he was soon pronounced dead.

Everyone wonders what how the zoo (Australia Zoo at Beerwah, south Queensland) will do without him. He has just done so much for the wildlife, and for those who always loved his shows. It's definitely a great loss to everyone. It's shocking and devastating to know of his sudden departure.

He made a trademark of pouncing onto unwatchful crocodiles and capturing them, which later he released them to their natural home. Rescuing trapped crocs or crocs living in a precarious environment which will threaten their survival, he sure is devoted to what he does!

How Boyish or Girlish am I?

You Are 50% Boyish and 50% Girlish

You are pretty evenly split down the middle - a total eunuch.
Okay, kidding about the eunuch part. But you do get along with both sexes.
You reject traditional gender roles. However, you don't actively fight them.
You're just you. You don't try to be what people expect you to be.

What the hell! I'm NOT "A TOTAL EUNUCH." <--- what a way to phrase it!! OH MY. I WAS REALLY TRAUMATIZED.

By the way, saw this on kian's blog, went to check out the website, and did this test. lol, funny.

I learnt a new phrase this week!

from my point of view..if studying is a type of training to oneself...den "It's not the number of hours you put into those trainings, it's what you put into those hours that matters."

Brainy

I am turning crazy, i may need a psychiatrist. what is it. have i done too much sins, or have i not done enough good deeds. maybe i should start...i need to change, change myself, everything...before it's too late. ='(

Me

I like the life in school now, it's intense, everyday's packed with tutorials and lectures, and homework plus revision for me when i'm back home. This is what i want! I will do anything to achieve my dream, nothing's stopping me, I may sound ruthless, but who am I going to blame when I fail to realise my lifetime ambition? WHO. "myself." am I then going to regret? what the fuk, then that's ridiculous, it's too late then! really...too late. It's over by then. =)
